The condition of most plants can be assessed by the way they reflect. Special cameras can be used to detect water, nutrient, disease and insect attacks before such stressing factors are even visible to the human eye. The visible light spectrum (e.g., red, blue, green) that we are most familiar with is only part of the equation. Vegetation also reflects light in the near-infrared (NIR) portion of the spectrum.
AgPixel plant health assessment products are derived by analyzing the differential reflectance of visible and near-infrared light from plant leaves. The analysis of the way plants differentially reflect light is used to derive the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), which has been used by scientists analyzing satellite imagery for years to study plant conditions.
Although the science behind our image processing is complex, AgVision products are consumable. All maps (orthomosaics) are georectified and can be imported for use with leading farm management and geospatial software, including SMS, SST Summit Professional, and FarmWorks.
